Talking Heads is well known for providing quality screenings within the community for a number of years! Our clinicians are experienced in conducting preschool, child care centre and school based screenings services throughout the year.
Screenings are also available at our Kogarah, Miranda and Kirrawee rooms. We continue to provide screenings to a large number of childcare/ preschool and schools each year.
Competent oral speech and language development is crucial in learning to read, spell and write effectively. Be proactive in supporting children’s communication needs, and developing their pre-literacy skills.
Toddler/ Pre Schooler Screenings
(Must be prior to school entry)

- Conversational/ Social Skills
Screenings Format
Screenings are administered in a 1:1 format and are up to 15 minutes in duration.
Kindergarten Screenings
(Must be in Kindergarten Year at Primary School)

- Speech Fluency & Voice
- Conversational/ Social Skills
Screenings Format
Screenings are administered in a 1:1 format and are up to 30 minutes in duration.
Outcomes
Screenings will assist parents and early childhood/ school staff be aware of any children with additional needs and determine the children that are in need of;
- A comprehensive speech, language and/ or literacy assessment
- Targeted intervention for a specified area of communication (whether oral &/ or written communication)
- Referral to external medical/ allied health professionals
- Monitoring of an identified communication area over time
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The purpose of early identification screenings is to act as an initial step to identify children with speech and/ or language difficulties.
Children who are currently under the management of a Speech Pathologist, or have previously had a Speech Pathology assessment are not eligible for a screening.
